Opal
Opals are a precious stone coveted for their distinctive colour variation, which results from light interference as it travels through the stone's small layers of silica spheres. Fluids rich in silica seep into fractures and cracks in rock formations to generate opal. As the water evaporates over time, the silica deposits solidify to form opal.
